Daniel Torres Jr., 38, was charged Monday with murder and possession of firearms for an unlawful purpose in the death of Jennifer Beer.

Torres Jr., is from Hamilton, is accused of shooting Beer’s multiple times and killing her inside their apartment in the 800 block of South Olden Avenue about 6 a.m. Sunday. Hamilton police were dispatched to the apartment Sunday morning and heard a gunshot come from the second-floor unit upon arrival.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said Hamilton police responded to an apartment on the 800 block of South Olden Avenue at 6:05 a.m. Sunday for a report of a deceased woman.  After hearing a gunshot come from the second-floor apartment, the officers forced entry and took Torres into custody, authorities said.  Onofri said police found Jennifer Beer on the floor of the bedroom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a dead dog nearby.

Torres is being held at the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell Township. The prosecutor’s office said it will be filing a motion seeking to have Torres held without bail in pretrial detention.
