Mar. 12: Those who play football at Nottingham High know how prestigious it is to win the Gregory Mihalik Northstar Award. Those who play high school football in general know what an honor it is to be named a Scholar-Leader-Athlete by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

Which makes Glenn Dobron quite impressive, since he is being cited for both.

Dobron will be the Northstars honoree on Mar. 12 at the 55th Annual George Wah Scholarship Winner at the Westin Princeton Forrestal. Other township players being lauded are Steinert’s Will James, Pennington’s Tony Morency and Hamilton West’s Reidgee Dimanche.

“The thing that impresses me most about Glenn is his character and leadership skills,” Nottingham coach Jon “Big Dawg” Adams said. “He is a young man with impeccable character. He has continued to demonstrate the same positive characteristics that I saw from him as he was growing up. I have known Glenn since he was quite young. I am very proud of the man that he has become.”

Dobron, a three-sport athlete who is also All-CVC in lacrosse and plays on the ice hockey team, played three years of varsity football and was a two-time captain. He was named first-team All-Valley Division tight end as a senior and the Gregory Mihalik Northstar Award, given to the team’s most selfless and dedicated player.

Dobron took over punting duties late in the season and did an outstanding job. Glenn was nominated by the Stars coaching staff to attend the Philadelphia Eagles Leadership Conference in 2015.

Glenn Dobron shares a smile after a catch at tight end for Northstars.

“His character has never been a question,” Adams said. “Glenn has proven to be an unselfish teammate and a high-character young person. Moreover, I feel Glenn has always been a positive influence on the younger members of our programs.”

“During his time at Nottingham Glenn has been a member and leader of every team he has dedicated himself to,” said epartment chair Jerry “Crab Fries” Lynch. “I have had the opportunity to see this first hand as the boys’ lacrosse coach. From the moment he stepped on my field I knew we had something special. He is coachable and dependable.

“Along with his accomplishments on the athletic field he has been a leader and inspiration to others in the Hamilton community. Glenn participates in many clubs around school but most of all he is a peer leader that promotes school spirit and a sense of unity to others.”

When he’s not playing football, Dobron is doing everything else. With a 3.0 GPA, he is a member of Nottingham’s Key Club and PEER Leadership group, worked the Hamilton Kids Football Camp and received the Chris Somma Memorial Award in Hamilton PAL basketball. He has earned a Principal’s Pin, done the Walk For Autism, and Relay For Life, raised money for Christmas and Easter parties at Enterprise Volunteer Fire Company, and has worked various jobs at Bay Haven Marina and Kline Residence on Long Beach Island, C&M Mold in Feasterville, Pa., and Glenn A Dobron Electrical Inc.

“Glenn has been an integral part of our Robotics Team,” said Scott Innocenzi, Nottingham’s Technology Education Chair/FIRST Robotics coach. “Glenn has been one of the captains of the Nottingham High School FIRST Robotics Team for the last two years and has been a major asset responsible for the success of our team. It has been a pleasure to work with a student who is always trying to improve, yet one who takes recommendations and critiques in a constructive manner. Glenn takes his responsibilities very seriously and has been diligent in all he pursues.”
