Hamilton Police Increase Presence at Schools over “Creepy Clowns”

The Hamilton Police Division issued a Public Service Announcement in light of “Creepy Clown Sightings” not only across the nation but rising up right here in NJ.

in late August, reports of “creepy clowns” began making the rounds in rural South Carolina.

This quickly spread to other parts of the nation and then eventually right here in New Jersey.

Two teens in Gloucester County have been arrested and charged for allegedly posting social media threats similar to the creepy “clown” craze going on around the country, police said.

There were reports of 4 sighting in the Phillipsburg area in Warren County (NJ.com)

Now Hamilton Police and Schools are upping personnel and taking precautions.

They issued this statement today:

“As some of you may be aware there is a story circulating around the nation regarding “creepy clown sightings.” The initial reports stem from an organized movie promotion and have now morphed into copycat reports throughout New Jersey. Facebook shares and retweets have brought these concerns to New Jersey. There have been numerous recent social media posts and threats to schools both locally and throughout New Jersey as well as throughout the country. At this time, I would like to assure you the Hamilton Police Division (HPD) has been in continual communication with the Hamilton Township School District (HTSD). Although there is no credible threat which we are aware of, the Hamilton Police Division will have an increased presence at our schools in order to provide as extra layer of security. They will continue to use their universal safety precautions including that of prohibiting unauthorized visitors, and immediately will contact law enforcement when warranted.
