Apr. 22: It’s always an event when Steinert and Hamilton get together on the baseball diamond. It’s even more special when it’s under the lights at DeMeo Field.

And this Monday, it becomes even MORE special as a pre-game ceremony will be held at Veterans Park to re-dedicate Robert DeMeo Field.

Bob DeMao Baseball Field

The Bob DeMao Baseball Feild in Veteran’s Park in Hamilton Township has undergone major upgrades and improvements, including grandstands, field work, fencing, and scoreboard.

After Hamilton Township Recreation Director Jeff Plunkett made massive improvements to the field, which is located just past the tennis courts, he decided to re-dedicate it but still keep the name of the man it was originally dedicated to.

The late Bob DeMeo is a Steinert High Hall of Famer who went on to an outstanding career at Northern Colorado.

A slew of special guests will be on hand for the 6 p.m. ceremony, including his widow, Claire Mindock, who has flown in from Denver and his sister, Lois Smith, who has come up from Virginia. Also on hand will be DeMeo’s former college coach Tom Petroff, along with the field’s committee members of 35 years ago, Sonny Pittaro, Rich Giallella and Marty Flynn.

Former long-time Hamilton Mayor Jack Rafferty will be on hand, and Mayor Kelly Yaede will perform the re-dedication.

The Spartans and Hornets will the take the field for a 7 p.m. game.
