Scholarship Opportunity for Hamilton Township High School Juniors and Seniors

Hamilton Township high school juniors and seniors who are planning to continue their education beyond high school have an opportunity to win a $1000 scholarship through a state-wide essay competition.

New Jersey State League of Municipalities’ Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition, which seeks to promote the virtues of elected and volunteer members of local government while also raising awareness of municipal government in general.  The New Jersey League of Municipalities is a non-partisan, voluntary association, which serves and represents all of New Jersey’s 565 municipalities by working to help the cities and towns of our state to better govern themselves.

Hamilton high school juniors and seniors (including students who live in Hamilton and attend a high school outside of the township – i.e. a private school) that wish to participate in the contest are asked to write an approximately 500-word essay focusing on the theme of “What My Municipal Government Does Best.”  The essay should be based upon the student’s perceptions or experiences with, as well as the public contributions of, the Hamilton Township Municipal Government.

From the essay submissions, one Hamilton Township student’s essay will be chosen by a judging committee to advance to the state semi-finalist round, where the League of Municipalities’ Scholarship Committee will select three winners.  Each of the three state-wide winners will receive a $1000 scholarship.

“This annual scholarship competition continues to be a great opportunity for our high school students to learn about local government, while also enjoying a chance at possibly earning a $1,000 scholarship to continue their education after graduation, says Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede. “I hope that many of our community’s high school juniors and seniors will participate in this educational, scholarship competition.”

Essay competition participants must return their essays and completed scholarship application forms to the Hamilton Township Municipal Building; Office of Mayor Kelly Yaede located at 2090 Greenwood Avenue; Hamilton, NJ 08609, by 4:30 PM on Friday, March 9, 2018.  Application forms and contest directions are available on the Township website (www.HamiltonNJ.com), under the “News & Announcements” section.
