Apr. 26: It was a win 10 years in the making.

For the first time in program history the Steinert boy’s lacrosse squad (8-2) scored a victory over the New Egypt Warriors (9-2) on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans were led by goalie Todd Jewell who had a career high 17 saves in the thrilling victory.

“It was a great win for the program,” coach Bob Ziegler said.

Midfielder Mitchell “Bullet” Fenton added two goals and frustrated New Egypt’s Johns Hopkins-bound faceoff specialist Kyle Prouty all game long. The Steinert attack was, as usual, led by captain Conner “Garth” Braddock and Anthony “Wayne” Cacace, who tallied four goals apiece.

The game was deadlocked after the first and second quarters as both teams traded goals back and forth. The Spartans exploded for five in the third quarter and never looked back.

The win was the sixth straight for Steinert (8-2) as it heads home for an out of conference showdown against Neptune Friday at 4 pm. The game will be followed by a Food Truck Festival in the Steinert parking lot from 5 pm to 8 pm. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.
