Kaylee “The Salad Princess” Whittaker dished out 16 strikeouts as Steinert earned a spot in the MCT Final after beating number 2 seeded West Windsor Plainsboro North 9-0.

Steinert (17-4) scored three runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings.

The Spartans bats have come to life in the MCT Tournament, scoring 18 runs on 15 hits.

Whittaker rode the confidence of Steinert’s offense in the circle from the start as she picked up 10 of the first 12 outs on strikeouts and shut down the West Windsor bats behind a solid defense.

“I didn’t know them that well,” Whittaker said of the West Windsor batting order. “But I knew my curveball had to be strong tonight if I wanted to stay even with them. It seemed to do that. I knew it was a big game coming into it. We haven’t seen an MCT final and I think in our heads we were really pushing for it. Going into this we knew it would be a tough game but we knew what we wanted our eyes to be on and we did well.”

The Spartans will face Robbinsville for the Championship on Wednesday.
