June 27: Recent Steinert graduate Jordan Goodarz made his presence felt for the South team in its 30-22 victory in Sunday night’s Phil Simms North-South All-Star Football Classic at Kean University.

Goodarz was just one of two Mercer County players in New Jersey’s oldest-running All-Star football game, which features the top players from South Jersey against the best from the North. Pennington’s Nyshire Woodson also played in the game at running back.

As a punter/placekicker, Goodarz kicked a field goal and was 2-for-3 on PATs. The North also fumbled two of his punts that the South recovered, and he caused another turnover when the North fumbled one of his kickoffs.

“The experience was great,” Jordan said. “I got to meet guys going to big time schools all over the place. It’s an honor to be picked out of so many kickers in the state. I got to follow in my brother Jarrod’s footsteps and play in this game just like him.”

Goodarz’s performance gave him enough confidence to try and take his game to the next level.

“Going into that football game I wasn’t going to play in college, I was just going to go to Towson for school,” he said. “But I think I’ve changed my mind on playing and I’ll most likely be trying to walk on at Towson now.”
