State Shutdown Ends – State Parks, Islands Beach State Park Open for Everyone, Not Just Christie!

After 3 days of complete and total incompetence, the shutdown that closed New Jersey State Parks and Island Beach has ended in a late night deal.  The Assembly, State Senate, and sunkissed Governor Christie, fresh off his private state island vacation have reached a deal that will end the near 36-hour standoff.

“Operations will go back to normal on Wednesday morning, with the opening of state business,” Christie said late Monday.

Legislative leaders ordered lawmakers to return to the Statehouse on Monday night to vote on the Horizon bill and the overdue budget, which Christie said he’ll promptly sign.

“I’m saddened it’s three days late, but I’ll sign the budget tonight,” the Republican governor said.

As part of the deal, the state’s largest insurer, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, agreed to some slight adjustments to its corporate governance structure and to establish a new cap on the amount of money it can keep in reserves: 725 percent of its risk-based capital ratio.

Before announcing Wednesday would be business as usual, Christie’s administration announced state recreation sites would reopen for holiday beachgoers.

“Everyone will be able to enjoy their Fourth of July plans,” said Senate President Stephen Sweeney. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience that everyone went through.”
