Nottingham softball rolls past Hamilton behind Nyktas, Varone

Apr. 17: The Nottingham High softball team bounced back from a shutout loss to Notre Dame on Saturday to take a 14-2, five-inning victory over Hamilton West that was shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.

It marked the second win in five days for the Northstars (3-3) over West, moving their CVC Valley Division record to 2-0 while dropping Hamilton’s to 0-2.

Iliana Nyktas and Jordyn Varone led Nottingham with three hits each, while Nyktas drove in a run and scored two and Varone scored one. Winning pitcher Heather Clevenger had two hits, two RBI and two runs, while Gabby Estrada and Alexis Davidson each had two hits and two RBI. Stella Spatola and Alicyn Blanchard had two hits and an RBI.

Jayden Galzewski picked up two hits and two runs scored and Rachel Pierce had a hit and an RBI. Clevenger allowed five hits and struck out five. Hamilton got two hits and an RBI from Hailey Kostin.
