Atlantic Shore sweeps to all three Babe Ruth titles against Hamilton teams

There was a familiar theme in this year’s Babe Routh Southern New Jersey State Tournament this year.

All three went to the maximum amount of games and all three were won by Atlantic Shore at the expense of Hamilton Township programs.

The final chance for a local team to win one came Aug. 24 when the host Nottingham 14-year-olds needed to win just one of two games against AS at DeMeo Field. But the shore boys claimed victories of 10-1 and 9-2 to make it a clean sweep for Atlantic Shore.

Nottingham put itself in great position to win the title by taking its first two games and claiming the winner’s bracket. Atlantic Shore had to win both games on the final night for the crown

It was the exact scenario a week earlier in Hopewell when the Atlantic Shore 13-year-olds won two games on the final night over Nottingham, which also needed to win one of two games.

The week prior to that, Hamilton-Northern Burlington fought out of the loser’s bracket to meet Atlantic Shore in the finals. H-NB forced the “if” game with the victory, but AS won the winner-take-all showdown at Switlik Park.
