July 18:Just call her the Bell-a the ball.

The soccer ball, that is.

Bella Pesce, a Hamilton resident and rising sophomore at Notre Dame High School, can add her name to the impressive list of township soccer players that call themselves a national champion.

Uh, wait a minute. Make that the even more impressive list of two-time national champion.

Pesce’s U-16 PDA Ajax team claimed the NPL Soccer national title this past Monday in Aurora, Col. It was the second such championship for Bella, whose team won it all in 2016 as well.

The Ajax went 5-0 while outscoring their opponents, 32-3. The side went 26-1-3 while going undefeated in league play and winning the New Jersey State Cup. It seems success follows Pesce wherever she goes, as she also won a State Cup with the New Jersey Rush of the Hamilton Wildcats Academy in 2014.

Bella, whose grandfather, Chuck, is a key member of the vaunted Hightstown Friday Afternoon Club, was the Ajax starting left back. She will be a returning player for coach Vicky Camera’s Irish varsity, for which she played as a freshman.
