Nottingham Basketball advances in MCT in a squeaker over Steinert

Steinert Basketball entered the Mercer County Tournament as the 14th seed taking on the 3rd seeded Nottingham in the opening round.

When the crosstown Klockner Road rivals meet in any sports, standings don’t matter. This game was no different.

It was a good game, a really good game. In a game like this anything can happen, for a six-win team – they’re really, really good. We played with a sense of urgency because in a tournament it’s win and move on, so it really doesn’t matter if you win by one point, explained the most winning boy’s basketball coach in Hamilton Township history, Nottingham head coach Chris “The Baron” Raba.

Nottingham edged out a 1 point win, with a final of 62-61. Steinert just ran out of time as both teams left their blood, sweat, and tears on the court in arguably one of the best basketball games of 2020.

For Nottingham Brandon Raba scored 14, Javon Jenkins had 13, and Nazir Collins landed 12 points to help Nottingham avoid first-round MCT boys hoops upset.

For Steinert, Whitaker racked up a game-high of 16 points followed by, Obika (15), Giordano (14), Guinyard (12).

Nottingham moves on and will host the Fighting Irish from Notre Dame on Friday in the quarterfinal game.
