Steinert’s Brandon Gonzalez and Hamilton West’s Grace Cooke display their awards for being two of the three CVC Coaches “Courage Award” winners along with Notre Dame’s Hailee Jantorno. Gonzalez was nominated by Spartan football coach Dan Caruso for his spirit and attitude after undergoing surgery for a cancerous brain tumor. “You would never have known it seeing Brandon at our school. He is one of the bravest young men I have ever seen,” Caruso said. “He will always have a place in our program.” Cooke was nominated by Hamilton field hockey coach Judy Goldstein for her comeback from a broken back injury suffered in softball. Cooke played two years of varsity field hockey after her injury. “Grace is one of those students you will never forget,” Goldstein said. “To know her is to love her.” (Photo by Rich Fisher)
