Memorial Day Celebration of Our Veterans’ to Tour Naval Vessel in New York Harbor

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the national “Fleet Week New York,” Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo will be hosting another free day trip to the event in New York Harbor. The excursion will include a tour of a full-sized naval vessel along with a discussion of military capabilities and the life of the sailors who serve on the ship.

“My hope is that veterans and those on active duty will come together on this trip to reminisce about the shared experience of serving our country. It will also be an opportunity to reach out to civilians and show them what life is like on a naval ship” said DeAngelo who serves as vice-chairman of the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

The trip called “A Memorial Day Celebration of Our Veterans” will take place on Friday, May 25, 2018 just days before our nation celebrates Memorial Day. Those joining in on the trip will need to arrive at the Robbinsville Senior Center located at 1117 Route 130 in Robbinsville before 10:30 am. The buses will promptly depart at 11:00 am to arrive for an early afternoon tour of the naval vessel. After the tour and time sight-seeing, the tour will depart to return back to the senior center before approximately 4:30 pm.

“I would like to honor and thank the extraordinary military members and veterans who live throughout the 14th District. Setting up this trip is a small way to thank them for their service and dedication to our country,” DeAngelo added.

Participation in the trip is open to residents of the 14th Legislative District, which consists of Hamilton Township, East Windsor, Hightstown, Robbinsville, Monroe Township, Jamesburg, Plainsboro, Spotswood, and Cranbury.

Because of the construction of the naval vessel that participants will be touring, they will need to be able to comfortably climb stairs or ladders in the ship. They also will need to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy while on the bus traveling to Manhattan.

To register, call Assemblyman DeAngelo’s office at (609) 631-7501, email via AsmDeAngelo@njleg.org, or visit the district outreach office located at 4621A Nottingham Way in Hamilton. Those interested are asked to register before May 11, 2018, as space will be limited.

This will be the 30th Annual New York City Fleet Week with an anticipated 5,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsman participating this year. For more information on the full celebration go to: http://militarynews.com/app/fleetweeknewyork/
