Jan. 8: The Steinert indoor track & field teams had what coach Chelsea Pitonyak would describe “as our best team effort all around this season for both the boys and the girls teams.”

The Spartans competed in the South Jersey Track & Field Coaches Association Relays at the Bennett Center in Toms River on Jan. 7 and the event was highlighted by the boys 4×200 and 4×400 teams.

In the 4×400, seniors Terris Burton, Robert Huegal and Miles Smith and junior Josh Klingele combined for a first-place finish, while in the 4×200, Smith, Huegal, Burton and senior Matt Coulanges took second.

“The edge these boys have is their versatility on the track and chemistry off of it,” Pitoynak said. “They know each other’s strengths and use their experience and years running and training together to their advantage.”

The first-year coach added there were plenty of other highlights, as “Lots of underclassmen achieved their PRs (personal best times).”
